Vacation Check Request

Grayscale BadgeVACATION CHECK REQUEST

MESQUITE POLICE DEPARTMENT

The Mesquite Police Department Volunteer Patrol will conduct security checks of homes that are temporarily unoccupied during vacation time as time permits. The frequency of the visits will be determined based on the number of vacation watch forms submitted and the availability of staff to complete the security checks. Our goal is to make one security check per week, but this is not a guarantee. Service may be less frequent during peak vacation watch periods (i.e. summer months).

The following requirements are necessary to ensure the safety of the residents and the officers:

  • The home must be UNOCCUPIED during the indicated times.
  • The homeowner or occupant must complete a new vacation watch form for each request for the service.
  • All information requested MUST be provided. This includes a specific password to be used to verify your identity upon your return. THIS PASSWORD IS NOT YOUR ALARM CODE.
  • If the homeowner or occupant returns home earlier than the time indicated on the vacation watch form they must notify the Mesquite Police Department IMMEDIATELY of their return.
  • Officers will inspect only readily accessible areas of the property.

PLEASE NOTE: The Mesquite Police Department will only be inspecting the perimeter doors and windows including those that are located in the backyard. The Mesquite Police Department will NOT be checking pools, spas, water leaks, or other areas aside from the perimeter doors and windows. If you wish to have your pools or spas inspected or the property monitored for water leaks we encourage you to hire a company that offers these services.

Vacation Checks are provided as a courtesy by the Mesquite Police Department. This service may be canceled without notice by the Chief of Police or his designee without warning. By requesting such service, the homeowner/tenant agrees to hold the City of Mesquite and/or its agents harmless from any and all claims, costs, charges, penalties, demands, losses, liabilities, or damages.

 Vacation Check Request Form

  • Vacation checks will be accepted for absences for one week (7 days) or longer but not to exceed 160 days.
  • If a resident returns home, or the home will be occupied overnight for ANY reason prior to the end of the vacation check timeframe, the police department must be notified immediately by calling 1-702-346-6911 and the vacation check “PASSWORD CODE” you provided.
  • Vacation Check Requests are good for one absence only and terminate when the home is occupied, whether or not it is before the end of the designated timeframe. A new form must be completed for any additional requests.
  • A valid government ID must be presented in order to secure a vacation check request.

If our volunteers notice anything amiss while patrolling the exterior of your home, the emergency contact designated for the vacation check will be contacted. It will be their responsibility to contact you and take appropriate action regarding your property.

Vacation Check Requests will expire at the end of the request period, and it is not necessary to call the police department with the code.
